Greta's blog, Day 1 (Saturday March 6th):

We left our house around 5:30 am for our flight (Remi had gone to "Camp" at Paws Inn the night before). We got to the Humphrey Terminal to park and just missed the train to the main Terminal. Once we got there, we found really, really long lines to check bags (we were checking one). Mike waited in the slower, but shorter "full service Delta" line downstairs and Greta waited by security. We didn't miss the plane but it was a worry - we had TSA PreCheck to go with our Global Entry, so that's what saved us.

Our flight to La Guardia was uneventful (always a good thing) but we had a 3+ hour layover. The Delta terminal we were in was quite small and had only a few places open for food. We found a place that you'd pay at your table but the credit card readers didn't work and we had to move to a new table. One of the Ipads at the new table didn't work but the other did - that was quite a challenge just to get a couple beers and Porchetta Pizza (which was pretty good). It was nice to not wear your mask for a bit while eating/drinking (on the plane, you must keep your mask on at all times, except when actively eating/drinking). Our flight to Key West had only 20 people on the entire plane, so we each got our own window seat, with no one in the rows in front or behind us - nice! Once again, the 3 hour flight was uneventful.

We landed in Key West and got our Rental Car - a black Chevy Cruze. We stopped at Publix to pick up some basic food/drink for the condo. Then it was on to find the condo. We found the complex quite easily from Google - but it's gated and we had to ask the guard shack where the lock box was located. He told us the same directions twice and we could not find it - it was really dark, and they had very few lights on the streets. In the meantime, Mike pulled out his laptop to get the specific directions/address to the lockbox and we STILL couldn't find it. We finally saw the guard on his bike and he pointed to a dark building - it was the building we needed. It was building 45 on 200 Front Street - we have no idea what "45" indicated since it wasn't related to the house number. We then went back to the guard shack to get our parking permit & code to get into the gated area. Once that was done, we found our condo pretty easily. It was very nice inside but we were tired and hungry.

We walked down to Blue Heaven for supper around 8:30 pm, which was supposed to be a good restaurant, but they had an hour wait, and the only other seating was outside w/o umbrellas and it was due to start raining more heavily by 9. We walked a little further down and found Ram's Head Southernmost Restaurant. They had a table under a covered area so we got lucky. We had a couple fun fruity drinks as well as food (bacon wrapped scallops for Mike, Mahi for Greta). Then we headed back to the condo to sleep - it had been a looooong day.
