Day 8: Saturday, February 18th, 2023

Time to go home! We went down for our last breakfast. This time Greta got an omlette and Mike got yogurt/granola/fruit. The blakcberry juice that was one of the three juice options was quite good and Mike enjoyed his Honduran coffee. We then packed up everything and headed down to the front desk to check out. We left our bags at the desk and arranged a 1pm ride to the airport.

Since we had the rental car for another few hours, we drove to West End. We drove down the street by the water but didn't see parking, so we headed back to the beginning. There we'd seen an aqua building with a large parking lot. In it contained an Emergency Center (Hospital?), a RE/Max office, a restaurant, and a few other little shops. We saw no signs noting "no beach parking" or "Private parking" and the lot was not full, so we left the car there. We walked down the street again, looking for a carved monkey for our trip souvenir but found nothing. But we did find a carved Macaw perched on a piece of log. Whether or not it's "Made in Roatan" we don't know, but it was beautiful and represented the National Bird, so we got it for our vacation collection.

We wandered down to Happy Harry's Hideaway, which was also on the water on its own pier. We had a couple of drinks, watched the weather turn from sun to clouds to wind to rain and back to sunshine. Then it was back to the car (which was still there!) and back to the the hotel. The car rental place would pick up the car and key there. Not bad for $70 cash, where you didn't have to worry about extra charges later. At Naboo, we got a plate of fries and a plate of chips/guacamole for lunch, and then it was on to the bus and back to the airport.

Checking a bag and going through security took very little time, so even though we got there about 2 hours early, we definitely had time to wait. It was a small airport and very busy, but quite modern. The air conditioning worked and it was not as chaotic as some of the airports in the Caribbean that we've experienced. Our plane was slightly delayed for boarding (although the plane was THERE). Once boarding, it took a while to leave, so we ended up leaving about an hour late.

The flight was uneventful and we got to Dallas a little over an hour before our next flight. We were in Row 15, which was near the front of the plane, so we got off sooner than some people. From there, we had to go through customs, which with Global Entry, should be a breeze. For some reason, Greta's face scan didn't work so she had to go see an agent, but there was only one person ahead of her in line, and when she met with the agent, they looked at her passport and did another face scan and was free to go. From there, it was on to baggage. It look a LONG time for the bags to arrive but we lucked out and our dive bag was the 2nd one off the carousel. Then we re-checked the bag, and went through security again, and walked to our gate. We were fortunate that both flights were in Terminal D and we didn't need to take the train to another part of the airport. We got to the plane, and our group (Group 6) was already boarding so we got on the plane. There were other MSP passengers on our flight from Roatan, and they also made it right at the very end, so it sounds like everyone made it on the plane. We flew to MSP without incident, and changed clothes. By the time we got to baggage claim, our bag was already there, so we grabbed that and headed for the tram. From there, we caught the light rail train to Terminal 2 (about a 2 minute wait!) and then it was back to the car. We got home just before 1 am.

Day 9: Sunday, February 19th, 2023

The trip isn't over until we are all home safe and sound. Therefore, even though we got home at 1am, we were up 5-1/2 hours later to go pick up Remi, as the pick up window is 7-7:30am. We got to Back Forty Kennels, and Remi was waiting! Cindy and Nic do an outstanding job of taking care of dogs, and we can tell they love it. Even more so, Remi was happy to see us but as we visited with their new groomer Kelli, he was all about investigating the grooming area looking for crumbs. Mike got the tour of the updated facility. Then we headed home - no leash needed! A quick stop in Winsted to get some cash, and we ran into Tom and Taylor on the way home on Grover. We stopped and chatted for a bit and let the doggies run. At this point, we noticed that Remi's growl/talking was much less than normal. Apparently he'd lost his voice from all the fun for the last week! Knowing he also seemed to have a good time (they sent us pictures all week) is a great way to end the trip.
