If your rear cam plug is out of the block, now is the right time to install it. Put some RTV on the outside of the plug, and drive in squarely into the block using a socket just a hair smaller than the plug. You may use a block of wood instead if you don't have a socket large enough.

You can skip this step if you want, but I recommend painting your block.

If you look at the previous page, you can see where I had a coolant leak right above the timing chain cover. Last time I rebuilt this engine, I was too lazy to paint it, and it looked dingy the last two years. This time I decided to not let that happen again. Painting your engine is real simple. Get some masking paper, masking tape, and some paint. Cover up the deck, lifter valley, timing chain area, and crank area. Use an old oil filter to cover the oil filter pad.
Paint Block
I actually painted my block 4 times after cleaning all the surfaces with brake cleaner. The last time I quickly shot a single coat of yellow, and it came off just as fast in some spots. I was determined not to let that happen again.

If you tend to spray paint too thick, like myself, you'll have to wait quite a while before it's dry. Mine took a couple days to dry. After you pull the masking tape off, you'll find the paint crept under the tape because of the oil on the decks etc, so you will want to go through with a razor and clean all the leakage off.
