Day 4 & counting. In the morning, we took it easy in the condo & Greta tooks some pictures of
floral & fauna on the grounds.
Today is Sunday and we didn't realize this but most of the shops are closed all day, or at
least until 5 pm. This wouldn't be an issue but we had planned on hitting some shops today,
and therefore, just did a lot of window shopping only. There were some stores that said they
should be open, but were not - apparently, those people were at the "lighting parade" last night
and didn't leave before it started!
After a lot of looking, we finally found "Red Sail Sports" in the high-rise area, and booked
a sunset cruise. It was located inside the Hyatt hotel, with no real signs directing us how
to get there, although that seems to be par for course here. The Hyatt had some beautiful
gardens, including black swans and caged parrots, and of course the requisite lizards & iguanas
running about. We haven't noticed any bugs really, so far, which is so nice. But there are
some dragonflies, so they must be eating something!
We stopped at Cafe Rembrandt for a tasty lunch - Jim got the seafood skewer & salad, Trina got
Chicken Gyros (which oddly were curry seasoned), Mike got the Chicken Sate & Greta got Pork
Schnitzel. And because it is a Dutch-type restaurant, we had bitterballen (ball-shaped
krotketten) for appetizers. The food was great & Mike got to chat in Dutch with the
guy in charge during the day, who was a Dutchman who'd lived in Aruba for the past 10 years.
The evening cruise was fun - we sailed up to the north tip of the island & watched the sun
set on the way back. There were drinks & appetizers (mini pizzas & meatballs) for all on
board. We saw a new type of bird -some sort of heron we think.
After disembarking, we did a bit of shopping since stores were open. Jim & Mike got cigars
and Greta picked up postcards for make-shift valentines for the Weckwerth cousins. We
returned to Cafe Rembrandt for some food. This time around, Jim got a Dutch dish (red
cabbage, potatoes & beef - don't remember the name), Trina got the Pork Schnitzel, and
Mike & Greta got the Nasi Goreng. And oh yes, bitte ballen for an appetizer. That place
has YUMMY food and it isn't overly expensive.
Back at the condo, we got one more quick swim in but it was chilly, as the water isn't
heated, and the sun was long gone. All in all, another great day in paradise!
