Mike was up early to go running. We'd found the running room the day before. Mike took Trina's recommendation
to shower there, as the showers are more spacious than the rooms. Greta slept in.
We headed off for breakfast at the Lido Deck around 9. We had all the basics - scrambled eggs, bacon, toast,
sausage, juice, etc. but of course there was a line, but it moved pretty fast (everyone was hungry).
Then we were off the boat to explore the island. We were thinking of taking the sky-ride to the near top of
one of mountains when a cab driver (Nataniel from BEST Cab Service) pulled us aside and explained he'd take
us to THREE overlooks for $25 apiece as opposed to 1 overlook that wasn't very high up. We took him up on his
offer and it was worth the upgrade. It was under a 2 hour trip. At the first overlook, we got out and looked
around a bit and got some great pictures. At the 2nd overlook - much higher up - we got some more good
pictures. The third overlook was as high as you can got on the island, had a huge gift shop and promised
"World Famous Banana Daiquiris". The views there were outstanding, and it was quite a trek up. The island
is left-hand drive, with right-hand cars, so it was nice to sit back and let someone else do the driving for
the day.
After we got back we walked into downtown, which was a little over a mile away. We had lunch at Glady's
(pronounced Glad-EEs) per Nataniel's recommendation. Greta & Mike both had curry chicken (with bones),
Jim had a stuff avocado salad and Trina had a chicken Ceasar salad with a side of avocado. The food was
plentiful and quite good. We wandered a bit and then took another Best Cab driver's offer (after he'd cut
the price) to bring us all back for $10.
Jim & Trina headed back to the boat. Mike & Greta wandered the shops as Mike's Keen sandals were
falling apart. After stops at Payless, Famous Footwear, Rainbow, and MANY other little shops, we found
NOTHING that would equate to a pair of hiking, closed-toed sandals. Then as we got close to the ship, we
saw a Croc store. Low & behold, they had a pair of men's Crocs with closed-toe structure, and a
mesh-fabric for the upper - shopping success! We left Mike's Keens in the trash there and re-boarded the
boat. They are very stringent about getting on/off the boat with a picture ID and your card - so it was
good to have that at all times.
After getting back on the boat, we just hung out around the boat and got some drinks at times. Trina got
a burger at Guy's Burger Joint. Greta got a couple of little fish tacos at the Burrito station, but that
closed down before the boys could get anything to eat. We hung out outside as the boat pulled away. It
had been raining on/off lightly for the rest of the afternoon. Eventually, we headed back to our rooms
before our 8:15 supper time.
Dinner was good and we all were feeling good. Mike had seared tuna for the appetizer, chicken curry for
the entree, green beans with bacon for the side, and Dutch apple pie for dessert. Greta also had the
chicken curry and green beans but with ceviche appetizer and praline cake for dessert. Jim had the
chicken curry as well and Trina had a steak.
