Day 5 (March 20th, 2015)

Yes, it was time to leave the fun behind and head back home. We were out the door at 6:30 am as we were warned traffic could be heavy and we had to drive back to Miami for a flight shortly after 1 pm. Fortunately, traffic was not an issue, and we go to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic on our drive back. As we got to Key Largo , we realized we were going to make it to the airport in plenty of time, so we started checking the smart phones for a place for breakfast. We kept finding places that were closed, or else behind us by 8 miles or so. Eventually, Mike checked a map & searched Homestead, FL instead, as that was about 20 minutes ahead of us. His searches found a little Mexican place that opened at 9 am that got good reviews and wasn’t far off the highway.

“La Cruzada Taqueria” had just opened for the day and we were the first people in the door. It was odd to be sitting inside for a meal for the first time all week, but what a way to end the trip. El Barrio was where we ate breakfast before flying down to FL and now here we were at another Mexican place for breakfast before flying back up to MN.

They noted their ham & egg breakfast burrito was “best” so Mike & Jim both ordered that. It was HUGE – easily larger than a Chipotle burrito. Trina got pancakes and Greta got a plate of beans, rice, and eggs scrambled with Chorizo sausage with corn tortillas on the side. The table was also given an assortment of toppings. There was a salsa verde (green) , a smoky red salsa, an avocado sauce and pico de gallo. All seemed to be made fresh in-house and were outstanding. The food was also excellent. We’d highly recommend this little place - it was over half full of customers when we’d left.

Then off to the airport. We dropped of the car, took the shuttle-train back to the airport, checked in and waited for our flight. The gate right next to us had a plane heading for Cuba. That’s something none of us have ever witnessed before – calls for boarding for Cuba. Maybe we’ll have to head there in a couple of years – the food alone is an enticement!

The flight back was on time and uneventful, which is always good. Trina’s bag arrived on the luggage carousel almost immediately, and a few minutes after we headed out the door, our shuttle bus back to the Marriott arrived. It was a quick 4-minute ride back to our cars.

We then hugged and wished everyone a good drive him. Jim & Trina decided to head back that night – pick up the boys and go home. That way they’d have a whole quiet weekend back home with Calvin & Sam, who’d been at Grandma & Grandpa Howard’s all week with 4 other cousins. Mike & Greta headed out to the cabin, where Brock was already waiting for them. Greta’s parents had dropped him off earlier that afternoon before heading to Willmar for some shopping.

Once again, it was a great time with great weather, great food & drink, lots of entertainment, and the best friends one could travel with!
