Up again for breakfast in the room and then out to a shore dive off of the Macabuca pier, with Sundivers
renting the tanks. Greta’s heel was still bleeding slightly but Jim had superglue, so that seemed to
solve the problem.
It was wavy when we went out and this time we went left instead of right. We dropped down and saw a school
of tarpon - BIG tarpon. Then we followed the reef for a while and back again. It got very wavy with a
current, even below the surface, and it got quite cloudy. There were also a number of divers, including a
family across the pool area from us. But a dive, even if not spectacular, is still a good day. Trina spent
the morning on 7 mile beach, near the Achorage condos, so we all enjoyed the morning.
We headed back to our condo, cleaned up & had lunch. Then we had a taxi take us to the Cayman
Distillery. We sampled all their main production items (Vokda, aged rum, gold rum, white rum, dark rum,
spiced rum, coconut rum, banana rum) and then had the option to also try their Triple Sec, Peach Schnapps,
Blackberry Liqueur, Coffee Liqueur, and Lemonchello. We all had our favorites as well as our dislikes.
They then took us for a tour of the distillery itself, explaining how they make rum, and showing us the
equipment. They make a 7 fathoms rum that put in a barrel for aging and then anchored 7 fathoms down in the
sea where the waves agitate it to assist the aging. It was all very interesting. Then our cab driver came
to pick us up & take us back “home”. We were thinking of going ot see the turtle farm, but most weren’t
interested in it and reviews ranged towards “fun” to “poor turtles caged for meat”, so we stayed
home.
Greta took a walk to Boatswain’s Bay – the sea was very wild up there and definitely not somewhere you’d
want to go swimming. The walk there & back was through a poorer area of the island and she was asked,
very politely , for $2 from a couple different people who definitely were in need of it. A number of other
locals said hello as well – the people here are very polite & nice, we have noticed.
After some time by the pool, we headed down to a place called Coccoloba – which is a seaside restaurant
that Mike found online. It was very casual & had a great view of the sunsets – exactly our speed.
We got there and were immediately seated. We had a few drinks and a crabmeat dip appetizer. Eventually
we ordered supper & everyone was happy. Jim had blackened Wahoo (catch of the day), Trina had steak
tacos, Mike had a grilled tuna and Greta had seared scallops. We watched a decent sunset (clouds have
barred anything spectacular since we arrived) and the guys got to “get their Nerd on” and took a lot of
pictures.
Back to the condo for a sit by the pool to end the day and listen to the wind.
