Day 8: Saturday, February 15th, 2025

Time to go home! Fortunately, our plane leaves in the afternoon so we had a little time to enjoy the resort before we left. Since we weren't diving, we waited until almost 8 to go to breakfast, and then could eat a bit more leisurely. There was a "Rincon Mexicana" sign that we'd seen at the front of the restaurant every day but didn't realize quite what it meant until today. There, a lady was hand making tortillas and frying them on the spot. From there, you had the choice of her making you tacos, quesadillas or tostones with the choice of 4 separate fillings; we both chose quesadillas made with chorizo and potato filling. The scrambled eggs offered that day were different in that they were wrapped around some chorizo, and Greta tried a bit of that as well. There was also a section for fried tortilla shells with various toppings including a Yucatan pork; this was here most days but Greta tried more of it today and it was very good. Fresh squeezed orange juice every day is quite a treat and we'll miss that!

Afterwards, we stopped by the dive shop to pick up our gear. For $5 per person per day, you could leave your gear with the shop and Victor would take care of cleaning and drying it for you every day. As it is very humid on the island, nothing seems to dry out very well, so this was a great perk to start each dive out with, and even better once we realized we were bringing clean, dry gear that didn't have to go through any rinsing and drying when we got home.

Then back to the room to pack. We got nearly everything finished, then went to Le Cap Beach Club for a mimosa to finish the morning. After that, we went back to the room but discovered our key card didn't work anymore. It was 11:30, and checkout was at noon, so we had to go back to the front desk to get a new card. Then back to the room to get everything and back to the front with our luggage. We had someone on the staff run up and help us with our bags to the front desk. We checked out and then the bellhops at the front took our luggage since we didn't have airport pickup for another hour.

This has been the nicest, most luxurious place we have ever stayed. We booked it through Costco, and the price was similar to what we've paid other places in other years but much fancier overall. We constantly were impressed with the El Presidente Intercontinental Hotel. They kept the room fully stocked with multiple large bottles of water. Each day, they re-stocked the mini fridge with a can of Coke, a can of Coke Light, and two small boxes of water. They came in every day to clean the room and every evening for turn-down service. The towels at the pool and beach were incredibly large and thick. Service everything was very friendly and excellent. We even had a one-day visit to the spa to use the amenities (sauna, cool bath, Jacuzzi) but we didn't end up using it - we had a hot tub in main area and really, who needs a sauna on a humid island? A different part of the Costco package also include $100 resort credit, transportation between the airport and resort on travel days and a $143 Costco credit once we got back home.

We went over to El Caribeno for one last drink, and visited with some dive friends we've met this past week. Then back to the front desk to catch our ride back to the airport. It looked like the people in the van were the same people from Superior WI that we'd ridden with the previous week. Once we got to the airport, we checked our dive bag and then were informed they were allowing complimentary checking of carry-ons as well, so we checked both our roller bags for free. We wandered in front of the airport for a bit then went through security, which didn't take long at all. The inside of the airport was very crowded. We looked around a bit and then settled in next to our gate. We had margaritas and an order of guacamole with chips. Even airport guac is excellent and inexpensive!

The flight home was on time and uneventful - always a good thing. We landed at 7:30, and made it through customs very quickly due to having Global Entry. All three of our bags came through in record time, and we were back at the car (after taking the light rail to the Humphrey Terminal) by 8:30 and home by 9:30. Two hours from landing to home is AMAZING!

We picked up Remi the next morning at Back Forty Kennel and were told he was a good little camper. They sent us pictures nearly every day and he was always busy playing outside, with the exception of one day when it was bitterly cold, so they all stayed inside for a TV day.

So we ALL had a wonderful vacation but it is good to be home in Minnesota again.
